Who knew that all these bangers were on the Emancipation of Mimi? Mariah Carey’s album turns 20 years old and it’s filled with some of the most quintessential R&B songs of our generation. 2005 was a time for music and she worked with the best of the best producers in the game like Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox, The Neptunes, James Poyser, Darkchild, & more. She’ll be releasing an ultra-deluxe version of the album filled with bonus tracks, remixes, acapellas, instrumentals, live recordings and much more packed into 5 LP records. We’re even blessed to get some remixes by @kaytranada & @esentrik too, you know I’m here for it! Might have to run back another listening party for this album. Director’s Cut is music video screening series to celebrate and highlight the art of music video direction — we’ve invited a great cast of directors to showcase their work, share their creative journey, and engage in meaningful convos with an audience of music lovers, aspiring filmmakers, and people who just love music videos (like me). Each director will feature 2-3 music videos that they’ve directed, followed by an in-depth discussion and Q&A, giving us a breakdown of their artistic choices, give insights to production challenges, and just putting us on game. Clean Slate 2.0 will be our maiden voyage into a mutual aid & community resource market, offering swap & trades (clothes, books, records, art), a low-cost market from great vendors (with nothing over $40), & low-cost services (photo headshots, tailoring, plant services, embroidery, etc.). Bring things to trade (lightly used, clean, etc.), tote bags to bring home all your goods, and an open mind! One of the first flea markets I’ve done was @cleanslateswapmeet in San Diego in 2018 when Slow Jamz was first starting out. We’d sell a bunch of samples and tees for as low as $10 to young college kids and really build our foundation to our community. I’ve been bugging @veeejzilla to bring this to LA, so we figured out how we can make this even sweeter — let’s build something for the people, by the people.
