Our newest art exhibition is opening soon! 🐒 In January 2020, graphic novel artist Jerry Ma @epicprops held his first solo show, A CHINATOWN ODYSSEY, which Pearl River Mart had the honor of hosting. The exhibition was Jerry’s reimagining of the mythical Monkey King and his legendary cohorts on adventures — and misadventures — throughout NYC’s Chinatown. His new exhibition at Pearl River Mart takes those adventures even further. Featuring the work of renowned AAPI comic book and graphic novel artists @thebernardchang @seanchenart @cliffchiang @sooleedraws @athenshao @epicprops @jeromeopena @kmbrlei, THE MONKEY KING IN CHINATOWN: ILLUSTRATED JOURNEYS OF A CHINESE LEGEND IN NYC takes this ancient myth on new adventures throughout a historic Manhattan neighborhood. The stunning pieces reimagine him as everything from a punk rocker to a dancing king to a ferocious b-baller. They place him in iconic Chinatown landmarks, like Columbus Park with its Chinese chess enthusiasts, the Canal Street subway station, a lively dim sum eatery, and the Transfiguration Church and beloved Hop Kee restaurant. The exhibition also features the artists’ works from their careers as comic book and graphic novel artists, and is accompanied by installations in @chelseamarketny and the outdoor tables of @meatpackingny.
