In 2023, @arianaluterman spent 10 months in bed with a mysterious illness. She couldn’t eat. Could barely sleep. That August, while still sick and with “nothing to lose,” she applied to break a world record: the fastest female to do a full triathlon on six continents. “I thought I was gonna die. But months had passed and I was still alive... That’s when I took my health into my own hands.” In November, Ariana finally discovered she had skin cancer. In December, her insurance approved a $30,000 drug for $10. On the same day as the insurance approval, Guinness World Records approved her application to break the record. “I looked at my parents and said: One, I know these drugs are gonna work. I can feel it. Two, you’re gonna watch me break a world record.” In January 2024, she finished the medication and ate her first real meal in months. She found a coach; her training began with walking up and down her street. In February, she started running a bit. By May, she was able to really move again. In November and December, she completed her first and second of the six triathlons — and is on track to break the record. “This record stands for people who aren’t afraid to dream so big, when everyone and everything around them tells them they can’t or shouldn’t even try.”
