TAIWAN PART 2: Still thinking about all the food we’ve eaten in Taiwan. Our favorite breakfast was of course Fu Hang (there’s a reason why there’s lines starting at 5am, but don’t let that deter you, the aunties are fast and efficient and it also means fresh-out-of-the-oven shao bing and you tiao crullers seconds out of the fryer). Celian also loved mi jiang (peanut milk), xiao long bao, tang yuan (sesame and peanut-filled glutinous rice balls) over shaved ice, and yep he even tried stinky tofu (I was so proud of him for that!). In between naps and night markets, Mei Mei ate every noodle and dumpling in sight :) Exploring Taiwan has given us so much new inspiration for papadamour, and I can’t wait to bring the kids back soon to watch them grow and soak it all in. Here’s a few of our favorite places: ✨Fu Hang: the best Taiwanese breakfast (thick hou bing with eggs and you tiao , savory soy milk on the side) ✨Yong Kang Beef Noodle Soup: classic Taiwanese beef noodle soup (get braised beef and tendon, side of steamed spare ribs) ✨Xiao Li Ji Rice Porridge: congee with ton of Taiwanese side dishes. Open super late, perfect if you have jet lag ✨Rao He Night Market: get the black pepper pork bun (baked in a tandoor-style oven) ✨Smoothie House: on Yong Kang St, for shaved ice with mango, panna cotta, and taro dumplings ✨Bai Shui Tofu Pudding: on Yong Kang, for tofu pudding with peanut brittle, grass jelly, and maltose syrup (the sprig of cilantro makes it) ✨Wang’s Broth: lu rou fan (braised pork rice) and stewed pork belly, braised cabbage and tofu, and in an alley in Huaxi market ✨Chun Sui Tang: where bubble tea was first created ✨Tong Hua Night Market: for sesame + peanut-filled rice balls with shaved ice & osmanthus syrup, oyster pancakes, and stinky tofu ✨Hai Di Lao: for hot pot, the kids loved watching the chef hand-pull fresh noodles ✨A-Zhong (Ay Chung) Rice Noodles: in Xi Men Ding, for rice noodle soup with vinegar, garlic, pig intestines ✨Din Tai Fung: classic, a staple for xiao long bao ✨Tian Jin Flaky Scallion Pancake: on Yong Kang, I like the scrambled egg with basil ✨Chia Te: for pineapple cakes
